South America

A continent of extreme landscapes, fascinating wildlife, colourful history and intriguing cultures, South America exudes a sense of mystery and wonder. Home to the world's highest waterfall, largest river, tallest mountain range, driest desert and largest rainforest, the scenery is jaw-dropping. Past civilisations have left their mark, particularly at Machu Picchu, while the modern cities retain architectural wonders and cultures from the past.

Sail through the Chilean Fjords - a magic and wild land of glaciers, snow-clad mountains, and penguins where the Pacific and Atlantic oceans merge. The Strait of Magellan and the Beagle Channel, where early explorers once circumnavigated South America to connect two worlds, resonates a dramatic silence punctuated by giant slabs of ice calving into the icy-blue lagoons. The fjords of Chile are a truly memorable sight.

Cape Horn is located at the southern-most tip of the South American continent. The cruising passage around Cape Horn was discovered in 1616 and became infamous throughout history, due to the many hundreds of failed attempts to 'round the Horn'. Now completely safe, it's a breathtaking journey and an experience that visitors to South America shouldn't miss.

Dominating the Patagonian steppes are the Torres del Paine (Towers of Pain), magnificent granite pillars that jut high into the misty clouds and are flanked by Paine Grande and Los Cuernos. Torres del Paine National Park is where you'll find snow-capped mountain peaks, cascading rivers and waterfalls, glaciers and mirrored lakes. Perfect for lovers of wildlife, there is a huge variety of plants and animals to be found, making the national park an absolutely unforgettable destination.
